Terrible twos at almost 20 months??
So last night was loads of fun. We were having fun getting ready for bath, undressing by the tub but her diaper was such that we needed to take her to the changing pad. She was fine with that. We finished getting her undressed. She held my fingers and stood up and danced and sang (it's entirely too cute!). About the time I picked her up to take her on into the bathroom, she saw the brush and reached for it and badly wanted it. She didn't get it. She screamed and screamed and screamed. I went on and put her in the tub thinking (hoping) she'd calm down and forget about the brush. She didn't.
At first, Brian & I just stood in the bathroom ignoring her. Then we decided to stand in the doorway out of her sight (we could still see her). She calmed down a little but was still crying. We then thought about our neighbor and decided to just give her a bath and get her out of the echoey bathroom. She quieted down some while I was washing her but she wanted NOTHING in the tub with her. No cup to rinse, no wash cloth.. NOTHING. And she screamed if anything she didn't want came into her sight. I got done and she was just whimpering by this point. I asked if she wanted to get out of the tub - uh huh. I held out my hands, she took them, stood up, and climbed out of the tub (btw, she can climb in and out of the tub holding my hands now!). I got her dried off and into her PJs.
Routine is: brush teeth, dry & brush hair. She got mad because I took the toothbrush away (We were done! It was time for stories!). Daddy thought he would be cute and lay on the bed with her blanket and pretend to be asleep. She didn't like that at all and started screaming again. We sat in the rocking chair, she screamed.. didn't want her blanket, didn't want a book. Again, NOTHING. She eventually fell asleep in my arms (in that mood, I don't dare put her down until she's out!). I carried her into her room (had the offending blanket hidden in case she woke up en route), put her down and prayed she didn't wake up and get mad at the blanket I just wrapped her in. :)
She woke up in a wonderful mood (really truly... she was back to her old sweet self). And I thought it was too early for terrible twos. Doggoneit.
