Thankfully none to our house, but Gardendale did pick up some damage from Friday night’s storms. The stores just outside of our neighborhood got a fair bit of damage. See pictures of the damage here.
Instead, we rode out the storm in Huntsville, where aside from a 5-minute assault of quarter-sized hail and a pretty tense night, we were alright. Lots of people up there will get new roofs courtesy of insurance.
While we were in Huntsville, Skipper went back to the vet for the weekend. Vet’s office was right in the middle of that Gardendale damage, but aside from a vent blown off the roof and a busted window, everything there was alright. You couldn’t pay me enough to sit in a dark powerless vet office at 3 am with a bunch of hyped-up animals when that storm hit.
UPDATE: National Weather Service has completed its storm survey, and determined that it was an F1 tornado that caused all the damage:
F1 Tornado. Large tree blown down on house resulting in one injury. Two large commercial air conditioning units blown off roof of K-mart. Dozens of businesses and homes damaged in the vicinity of Hwy 31.
Me either!! Harriet hate thunderstorms I’d hate to see what she’d go through in a tornado!! Lets hope we never has to find out!!
Glad you guys didn’t sustain any damage I was thinking about you all the whole time that system was in your area. Then I started freaking out about us…since it was headed for us. But nothing.
I think savannah has this weird weather blocking system that makes hurricanes jump north of us, and for rain and tornados to split and go north and south of us….cause that’s what always seems to happen!!
knock on wood.
