As you know, we had her boarded at the vet’s while we went to GA. That turned out to be a very wise move. Upon returning Monday, we got to talk to the vet. He told us that when he saw her Friday, he was not optimistic or hopeful or any of those pleasant words we all want to hear. With that in mind, he decided to get a little more aggressive in his treatment. In addition to the gel and the liquid antibiotic we’re giving her, we are to give her 1/2 a pill that’s an antibiotic he would not normally give to puppies. They told us that they could either give her the stronger antibiotic or she’d basically rot away. This, basically, is their last ditch effort to stop whatever it is that’s gotten ahold of her.
That said, the Skipper we picked up Monday afternoon was a COMPLETELY different Skipper than who we dropped off the Friday before. She didn’t cry out in pain when you picked her up. She was actually walking (instead of waddling), and moving faster. She’s still not as quick as you’d expect a puppy to be, but she appears to be responding well to this treatment. She actually got a little playful… trying to catch my hand as I moved it around her head/face. It’s kind of like she was trying to bite it, but when I let her catch my hand, she’d just put her mouth on it, not actually biting down. Although, that in addition to watching her gnawing on a stick made us decide it’s time to get some chew toys!
It was sweet last night, too. At one point, Skipper was following Taylor everywhere and Taylor looks up and says, “My puppy is playing with me!” 🙂
Despite what it looks like in the Recent Entries box, no, we’re not changing the name of the site to “skipper.net”
I’m glad the vet is geting more agressive in her treatment. Hopefully this’ll kick whatever is causing all the grief this poor pup is going through.
Harriet used to play bite like that too. She’s never actually bitten either of us, not even in play. She just places her mouth around your arm but puts no pressure on it. She’ll nip though and that tends to hurt. We just tell her to be gentle when she gets that way and she is very good about it.
I’m glad she’s feeling better!!
