Tuesday morning she woke up complaining that her mouth hurt. I tried to get her to point to where it hurt and she pointed to her stomach and then said something I didn’t understand. We shrugged it off.
Wednesday she woke up in the middle of the night from a bad dream and when I kissed her forehead, it seemed warm. Yep, 100.7 according to the thermometer. When she woke up again, she seemed warmer but I didn’t get the thermometer out this time. She again complained of her mouth hurting. I again tried to get her to point to where it hurt. In a frustrated tone of voice she told me she couldn’t – it was on the inside. I said, “Here?” and touched her throat. She nodded. I felt her throat and it was swollen.
Brian took her to the doctor, told them his suspicion so they swabbed her. Doc took one look and said, “I don’t care what that swab comes back saying, she has strep.” The nurse came back and said, “It’s not even done processing and it’s already saying it’s strep.” Her first case of strep throat! Joy! (I used to get strep quite regularly… haven’t had it in awhile and hope it stays that way as I remember it all too well! So far, so good).
So, home with Daddy on Wednesday… she had ice cream and was only hungry for lunch when he offered McDonald’s. Home with me on Thursday and she was basically fine. She was still considered contagious so had to stay home.
This morning we learned that no other kids in her class have been out sick. That was amazing considering we also learned that, on Tuesday, Taylor was licking her fingers and “drawing” on the table.
