May 6-8 - Venice
Bridge of Sighs - three reasons that it's called the Bridge of Sighs. It connected one building to a prison. The only reason a prisoner was taken from the prison was to be put to death. Upon entering the prison, the person walks across the bridge and sighs because they know it's their last look at freedom. Upon leaving the prison, the person walks across the bridge and sighs because they know they are about to die. Of course, the most current and popular theory on why it is called the Bridge of Sighs is because young lovers ride underneath it in the gondolas and sigh.
